Year 6

Well, this is it! Year 6's final year at Lickhill Primary School!

The final year of Primary School is memorable in so many ways. Throughout this year, the children will grow and mature, they will take on extra responsibilities, become more independent and prepare for High School. Not forgetting of course, sitting their SATs exams in May!

Expectations are high – we take our Seven Secrets of Success very seriously because we understand just how crucial they are to achieving life long success. We also understand how important it is to take risks in our learning; nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Children are expected to read to an adult at home 4 times a week. They need an adult to sign their home school diary each time in order to collect their reading tokens and to be ticked offon the homework sheet. The week runs from Friday to Thursday in preparation for the Rewards Assembly on a Friday morning.

We are trying something slightly different this year with the homework after an in-depth discussion with the children about the purpose and value of homework.

The homework expectations are:

Weekly – Reading to an adult x4 (signatures in home-school diary)

- Learn spellings – tested every Thursday.

- Maths and English - given out on a Thursday, due in on a Monday.

Extended, creative tasks which will last approximately 3 weeks, may be topic related or specific to a subject; these will occur at least once a term and will replace Maths and English. The children suggested that this type of task enables them to:

- stretch and challenge themselves,

- put their own stamp/personality into it,

- having a longer time scale will lead to a higher quality end product,

- the choice element makes it more enjoyable – therefore they will be more engaged

- having time to share with the class makes them feel valued and helps to build relationships

Homework club is available every break time should your child need any support or guidance, or access to a computer.
