Mary Arden’s House Y3+Y4

Years 3 and 4 have been studying Tudor life and took a trip to visit Mary Arden’s house in Stratford; the mother of William Shakespeare.  The children spent the day discovering what life was like on a typical Tudor farm.  Old breed farm animals, such as Cotswold sheep, geese, pigs, goats and horses could be seen as well as many of the crafts and skills of that era.

The whole Tudor experience was brought to life by a wealth of period dressed staff who were carrying out the day to day duties on the farm.  Keeping in role, they invited questions and gave explanations which captured the children’s imaginations and reinforced their knowledge and understanding.

This trip has completely ignited the children’s enthusiasm and hunger for knowledge about the Tudors through investigation, literacy, the arts and research. Many are even considering a return trip during the holidays to share this opportunity with their families.
