Y3 and Y4 Early Settlers Working Museum

Yesterday, 5th July 2012, Year 3 and 4 were blessed by good weather (!!) for their working museum on Early Settlers.  Children worked in small groups to run an activity based on daily life for the Early Settlers.

Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children visited in the afternoon.  It was the culmination of a few weeks’ work: children had worked in teams as experts on a particular area, researching independently and designing their own activities to demonstrate their chosen aspect.  Activities included:

hunting

bread-making

thatching

wattle and daub

archaeology

weapons

spinning and carding

weaving

runes and riddles

jewellery

dying

Mrs Lloyd and Mrs McLeod were enormously impressed by the way Y3 and Y4 rose to the challenge: they showed how much they had learnt, both in the way they designed the activity and how they communicated it to the younger children.

Thank you to parents for the fantastic costumes and putting up with the mud (an authentic aspect of early life in Britain)!!
